From Chronic Migraines to Living Pain-Free
(and what to do instead)

Hi, I´m Sara.
I have lived with migraines for many years. With pain, fear, frustration... and a constant feeling that my body was "broken".
For a long time I did everything I was supposed to do: avoid certain foods, avoid noise and light, avoid stress, live an "orderly" life. And yet, the migraines kept coming.
The problem was not that I was not doing it well enough. The problem was that nobody had explained to me how migraines really work.

When I started to understand how the brain processes pain, how it evaluates threats and how it learns to protect us, everything started to make sense.
This guide covers the 3 most common mistakes that people with migraines make — with the best of intentions — but that, without knowing it, keep the cycle active.
If you recognize yourself in this, you are not alone. I was there too.
Mistake
"something is wrong" inside the brain
When you have an intense migraine attack, it is completely normal to think that something serious is happening inside your head. The pain is so strong that your body demands an explanation: inflammation, dilated veins, cranial pressure, some kind of damage.
I had literally imagined inflamed arteries behind my right eye, pulsating out of control.
But here is a key fact that changes everything:
If you had an MRI scan at the worst moment of a migraine attack, they would find no inflammation, no lesions, no abnormal pressure. Everything would be within normal values.
This does not mean, in any way, that the pain is not real.
The pain is real.
The dizziness is real.
The nausea is real.
What happens is that the brain has activated all the alarms because it has interpreted a situation as a serious threat, even though it is not.
The mechanism is the same as when you touch a very hot pan, put your hand on ice, or prick yourself with something sharp. In all these cases, pain serves to protect you.
The problem with migraines is not the mechanism.
The problem is that the evaluation is wrong.
The brain has learned, mistakenly, that certain normal situations are dangerous and generates pain to prevent damage that, in reality, does not exist.
Your brain has learned to generate migraines.
Now you need to help it to unlearn migraines.
I know this idea can be shocking.
It really bothered me the first time I read it.
If it does not fit for you right now, that is okay. You can leave it here. But if it does, stay with me and learn how to start this journey towards a pain free life.
Mistake
migraines are genetic and will last forever
One of the most repeated messages about migraines is this: "it is genetic" or "there is nothing you can do".
I believed it too. I thought I had been dealt a bad hand in the genetic lottery.
But the reality is much more complex — and much more hopeful.
There are no genes that cause migraines, except in extremely rare cases.
There may be genes that increase the probability, yes, but genes do not work like a switch. Their expression depends on many factors: the environment where we are born, how we grow up, what we feel as children, and how we learn to interpret pain and danger.
The brain is not born with migraines.
The brain learns.
Even if no one in your family suffers from them, we live surrounded by a cultural narrative that presents migraines as something inevitable, chronic, fragile and dangerous.
The brain absorbs these messages without question.
Migraines are learned.
And what is learned, can be unlearned.
It takes time and patience but it's possible and I will help you.
Mistake
and trying to control everything to prevent pain
Many people with migraines are given the same advice: live an orderly life, avoid triggers and avoid stress.
Over time, the list of things "you cannot do" grows: certain foods, noise, light, heat, cold, intense emotions.
All with the intention of avoiding pain.
But when we understand how the brain works, this starts to change:
If migraines are the result of a wrong evaluation of normal threats, avoiding them reinforces that evaluation. Each avoidance sends the same message to the brain: "this is dangerous".
The migraine brain becomes more and more sensitive.
Life keeps getting smaller.
The path is not to avoid, but to re-educate the brain.
Through gradual, safe and conscious exposure, and following certain steps and exercises, the brain can unlearn these wrong associations and stop reacting as if it were in constant danger.
It is not about forcing.
It is about deactivating a false alarm.
This guide is just an introduction.
In my content I go deeper into how pain works, why the brain makes mistakes and how to start breaking the migraine cycle.
If something you have read made you think "this explains a lot", it is not a coincidence.
The migraine is not you.
And it does not have to be forever.
Thank you for reading this guide.
